Capsifen is clinically substantiated to provide 19x better serum bioavailability of ‘free’ capsaicinoids compared to standard unformulated red chili extract.
Capsifen, supplemented at low doses of 100 mg and 200 mg daily for 28 days, shows a dose-dependent reduction in weight by 4.8% and 6.2%, respectively. Additionally, Capsifen aids in appetite control and satiety. Through the use of validated appetite and eating questionnaires, such as the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ) and the Council of Nutrition Appetite Questionnaire (CNAQ), significant enhancements in cognitive restraint, uncontrolled eating, and emotional eating were observed among those taking Capsifen.
Capsifen intake significantly boosts energy expenditure both at rest and after exercise within 28 days. Specifically, a daily intake of 100 mg increases resting calorie burn by 195 kcal, while a 200 mg dosage raises it by 300 kcal. Following exercise, the calorie expenditure increases by 277 kcal for the 100 mg dosage and by 331 kcal for the 200 mg dosage.
Capsifen displayed a dose-dependent effect that significantly enhanced fat oxidation both before and after exercise, with the most substantial increases observed at the 200 mg dosage. Following administration, fat oxidation increased by 74.84% with 100 mg and by an impressive 292.25% with 200 mg, demonstrating a threefold increase as the dosage doubled. Relative increases in fat oxidation after exercise showed a 220% rise from baseline and 36% over the placebo.
Capsifen significantly extended the time to exhaustion when supplemented at dosages of 100 mg and 200 mg, compared to baseline. The time to exhaustion increased by 68.52% with 100 mg and by 56.13% with 200 mg. Additionally, the between-group effects revealed a 48.98% increase in endurance for the 100 mg dosage over the placebo, and a significant 74.41% increase in endurance with the 200 mg dosage compared to the placebo.
Mechanism of Action
Capsifen works by leveraging the body’s response to capsaicin, the spicy compound in chili peppers. Central to this response is TRPV1, a protein receptor located in the nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. When activated by Capsifen, TRPV1 stimulates thermogenesis (1 to 2°C), which increases energy expenditure or calorie burning. This activation also enhances the breakdown of stored fats (a process known as lipolysis) and improves sugar metabolism, helping to convert these fats into usable energy. This mechanism not only boosts overall metabolic efficiency but also supports improved physical performance and weight management when paired with a balanced diet and regular exercise. Thus, Capsifen helps to turn up the heat from within for improved weight management and performance.
