To assess the effectiveness of ProcynCi versus the standard aqueous extract in relation to their polyphenol content, the ‘blood sugar lowering index’ was calculated for each extract. This index is derived by dividing the observed decrease in fasting blood (FBG) and postprandial glucose (PPG) levels after 30 days of supplementation (ΔFBG and ΔPPG represent the differences from initial values to those after 30 days for FBG and PPG, respectively). The results showed that the decrease in FBG and PPG levels with ProcynCi was 2.98 and 3.45 times greater, respectively, than with the standard aqueous extract.
In a 30-day study, pre-diabetic but otherwise healthy participants took 125 mg of ProcynCi twice daily. The study measured blood glucose levels initially (baseline Fast Blood Glucose, FBG 1) and then postprandially after 2 hours (PPG 1) and 3 hours (PPG 2). The results showed a significant reduction in FBG from 121.4 ± 8.1 mg/dL to 103.6 ± 5.4 mg/dL (P < 0.05) by day 30. Additionally, there was a significant average decrease of 27% in postprandial blood glucose levels after a standardized rice meal, compared to the baseline.
Hyperglycemia and glucose fluctuations during the postprandial period can trigger oxidative stress, resulting in decreased levels of antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), and catalase (CAT). In a study with pre-diabetic but otherwise healthy participants, ProcynCi was administered at a low dose of 125 mg twice daily for 30 days. The study measured oxidative stress and found that ProcynCi supplementation significantly boosted the levels of these antioxidant enzymes, demonstrating a reduction in oxidative stress: SOD levels increased by 12%, GSH by 50%, and CAT by 10%.
